About Texas Roadhouse
Texas Roadhouse was founded by Kent Taylor, who opened the first location in Clarksville, Indiana, in 1993 after sketching the concept on a napkin while tending bar. He raised the original $300,000 in startup money from three Kentucky doctors, and three of the first five restaurants he opened failed before the roadhouse format found its footing. The chain has since grown into one of the largest steakhouse brands in the country, with more than 800 restaurants operating across the U.S. and internationally.
That scrappy, roadhouse-diner identity — peanut shells on the floor, occasional line dancing, and a basket of free hand-baked yeast rolls before you even order — is why the menu below still leans on scratch-made sides and hand-cut steaks priced for everyday dinners rather than a special-occasion splurge. Every steak is hand-cut in-house daily rather than pre-portioned off-site, which is part of why cut availability can vary by location and by day.
